The following four cooling tools are introduced in this article.

  • Cooling net attached to the manual roasting machine
  • Simple electric cooling fan
  • Manual fan (fan)
  • Electric fan exclusively for roasting

I will start with the simple tools that are easy to start with,

Finally, I would like to introduce my favorite tools that I am currently using.

Let's take a look at them one by one.

Tool 1: Cooling net included with manual roaster

焙煎用冷却あみ

The first one is the easiest cooling method.

Use the cooling knob that comes with the manual roasting machine

Union's sample roaster is equipped with a cooling knob like this

After roasting is finished, remove the beans and cool them by shaking them continuously.

The key is to cool them as quickly as possible.

When you purchase a manual roaster, this cooling strainer is included in the set,

There is no additional cost.

When you start roasting, try this method first.

I will tell you one thing I find difficult with this tool.

It takes some time to cool the beans.

You have to keep shaking it for a few minutes until the beans cool down, so it's a bit of a challenge...

If you feel that you want to cool them down a little easier and quicker, I recommend the following tools

Tool 2: Electric cooling fan

焙煎ツール

Next, we introduce an electric cooling fan.

電気式ファン

To use this tool, after roasting beans with a manual roasting machine, take the beans out of the roasting pan and place them in the cooling jar.

At the same time, the electric cooling fan blows air to the beans.

This method cools the beans faster than the manual method,

This method cools the beans faster than the manual method and removes the effects of heat from the beans after roasting.

電気式ファン

In addition, with the electric fan, the beans can be cooled by placing the stirrups

This is recommended as it improves the efficiency of the operation.

Also, although it costs a little more,

There are also many products that can be introduced at an affordable price,

although they may cost a little more.

Tool 3: Manual fan (fan)

手動式うちわ

If you want to cool quickly but at a lower cost than electric fans...

For those who want to cool quickly but at a lower cost than electric fans...

I recommend manual fans.

うちわ

In Japan, we call them "uchiwa.

Made of wood and paper, it is flexible and blows air

うちわ

Uchiwa is more effective than it looks.

When used in conjunction with a cooling colander, they can cool surprisingly quickly.

Uchiwa fans can be purchased for as little as a few hundred yen.

If you want to keep the cost as low as possible, choose this one.

It is recommended to use it in combination with a cooling net.

Tool 4: Electric fan for roasting to increase efficiency

電気式ファン

Lastly, I would like to introduce an electric fan that I am currently using for roasting.

What is the difference between the electric fan introduced earlier?

焙煎ツール

The electric fan introduced earlier was the type that let air out

電気式ファン

This electric fan dedicated to roasting is the type that "sucks air in"

The beans are transferred to the set with the stir stick, and the power is turned on.

The fan cools the beans as it sucks in air,

The entire bean is cooled evenly and quickly.

冷却あみと電気ファン

The cooling time is considerably shorter than the three tools introduced earlier,

convenient because it also sucks up some chaff while it is at it

After roasting, there is a possibility that the beans will be slightly roasted due to the heat storage effect.

It is important to cool the whole bean as quickly as possible.

It is important to cool the entire bean as quickly as possible to achieve the roasting state you have in mind.

This cooling tool is a specialized roasting tool and is very efficient.

While the roaster is cooling, you can clean up the tools and prepare for the next roasting.

and prepare for the next roasting.

For those who repeat roasting several times, the efficiency of roasting is

I think it will dramatically improve the efficiency of roasting.

To be honest, I wish I had bought this earlier...

Summary

When you start roasting, you should consider the cost and use the cooling net that comes with the manual roasting machine.

manual fan or a simple electric fan is recommended.

However, as you gain experience and frequency of roasting,

introduction of an electric cooling fan specially designed for roasting

efficiency and improve the quality of roasting.

Please try to find a cooling tool that suits your style of roasting.
